Hello. I'm Cristina, Urpi's mother.
Urpi was born in the "República del Perú" (The Republic of Peru), in Lima, the capital city, to be exact. My husband (Miguel) and myself were both born in two tiny Andean towns, Huamanga (Ayacucho) and Urcos (Cuzco). We met in Lima and lived there for a while. Like many Peruvian families, my husband has some Spanish ancestry.
Our daughter is such a good girl...even though you'll probably think that's what a mother would say - especially as she's our only child! But she loves to work hard. She wants to go to university and study Business, and I know she wants us (and the rest of our family) to have things a bit easier financially. She does her best not to ask us for money, and she spends as little as she can. In fact, she pays for most of what she needs by babysitting at the weekend, or by looking after elderly people.
Urpi was only 9 when we came to Spain. My husband came first, and now he works as a sailor (like he did in Lima), and I work as a sewing machinist sometimes, and other times, like Urpi, as a babysitter or looking after the elderly. Life is so different here, but I think we all feel settled in Spain now. We seem to have been accepted by the Spanish people, and in fact we have many friends here. I don't think we'll go back to Peru, although when we first came to Spain we thought we might return some day.
