| I am a Catholic. When I was born I was baptised and did the first communion when I was 12. I remember that I went to my parish and meet the priest and other friends who would also do the first communion. They explained to us who Jesus was and his message of love, helping others and building a world with justice, etc. On the day of our first communion we celebrated a big party, but I think that the idea of the party is stronger than the religious one for some of my friends (and their parents). The same is true for Christmas, I believe.
In Catalonia there is a great devotion to the Virgin of Montserrat. She is the saint patron of Catalonia. When the Catalan football team 'Barça' wins a title they offer the prize to her. She is black and she is called 'La Moreneta'. In Galicia, the patron saint is Santiago Apostle, the Virgin of El Pilar (or the 'Pilarica') in Aragón, Saint Isidro Labrador in Madrid, Saint Fermín in the Basque Country, the Virgin of the Macarena in Andalusia. |
