I'm bilingual. I speak Catalan and Spanish. I can also manage a bit of English and even some Galician that my grandfather taught me. When my family and myself lived in Catalonia we spoke Catalan, but we stil speak it a lot even though we've moved. Even my Galician grandfather father spoke Catalan most of the time because my grandmother was Catalan, he lived practically all his life in Catalonia, and the language was easy for him. In Catalonia, at school we study all the subjects in Catalan and there are also two Catalan TV channels. I love watching TV3.:: In Catalonia there was a very important musician called Pau Casals who defended peace in the world. He went to the United Nations and he said these words . "I am a Catalan. Catalonia is a province of Spain but before was a nation and perhaps the greatest nation in the world. I shall tell you why - Catalonia had the first parliament, long before England did, and it was in Catalonia where there was a part of the 'United Nations'. All authorities of Catalonia met in the XI Century at Toluges - today a French city, then belonging to Catalonia - to speak about it. They invented the truce of God". (United Nations General Assembly, October 24th 1971). I've also read that he was given the Peace Medal by the United Nations in the same year, because he defended peace in the world. He recommended music as the universal language and sang the song 'El cant dels ocells' (the song of birds). He said that birds were singing 'Peace, peace, peace', and that Bach, Beethoven and all the important musicians would have admired and loved this song. I like what Pau Casals said about getting together to talk about peace and I also think that peace in the world is the most important thing.
