| I smile when I think in 'my language', because I should say languages and dialects. My mother speaks with an Andalusian accent and my father with a Castilian accent. My family and myself have already lived in various parts of Spain. I was born in Madrid and lived there till I was six; then we moved to Catalonia till I was nine; later we went to Extremadura (actually to Cáceres, in a town in the border with the Alenteijo region, Portugal) till finally when I was thirteen we cam here. So, I speak Spanish - and the English I'm learning at school. However, due to my family's moving about a lot (I learned the word 'Diaspora' at school, which might apply to us.....), I also speak some Catalan and Portuguese, so at times I speak with Josep in Catalan and with Maru in Portuguese, which is very similar to the Galego language. My accent? As you can guess, it sounds like from everywhere and from nowhere!! |
