Hello. I'm Isabel's mother and my name is María. Like Isabel, María is also a very common name, and not just in Spain and Spanish-speaking countries! I'm originally from Granada, a beautiful and historic city in the south of Spain. Sometimes I miss Granada, with its Alhambra or the Generalife palace, with its 'sea of columns' and the relaxing sound of the water. Yes, the Muslim past is there, in the art, the music, the cuisine, the literature and poetry... I would say that in the air as well. In fact, Granada was the last Muslim fortress or bastion with 'Boabdil el chico'. I'm a teacher of 'Sevillanas', a typical dancing from south Spain in general, and from Seville in particular. My husband is from Toledo. He worked in different unskilled jobs and he's now a taxi driver. We are not especially well off, but live happily with our daughter Isabel and our son Ismael. Their names are similar, but they are very different both in temperament and looks)! Isabel (Isa) has clear skin, light brown hair and green eyes. She's a bit short and (I think) a nice shape - not a stick insect like too many of these girls nowadays). She likes to study and she would like to become a pre-school teacher. She loves dancing and has a good sense of rhythm but isn't tall enough to be part of a dance company (or thin enough, I suppose some ignorant people would say). She's an active and sociable girl, always seems happy and I'm sure her friends find her kind and very sincere. She and Lucía (the Roma girl) are really good friends, but there are others too.
